The Fight Begins

Jock Jams – Let’s Get Ready to Rumble – 1995 (feel to play the song while you read this post)

Yesteday, I started my first round of chemo. It was scheduled to be a long one the first time around as they needed to see how I react to the drugs. All the drugs were administrered through IV. The first one was the longest. It was the antibodies and it started at 9:00. I finished it by 2:30. The other three were done within about 1h which meant I was all done by 3:30. Much better than the 6:00 PM time they planned for.

Mary Ann planned to stay with me in the morning to keep me company. She did not last too long though. Her nausea forced her to leave shortly after 9:00. That left me alone for a little while. I was able to pass the time away quite well. After lunch, my buddy Richard stopped by to keep me company and take me home when I was done.

The treatment itself went very well with no side effects. The evening was good and I was feeling surprisingly well. The night was not as good though. I had a rough night’s sleep. With all the info I had received thoughout the day, my brain took time to process it all before bed. Combined with this, I could feel my heart. I think it was freaking out trying to push out the toxins from my system. I was up for several hours during the night but was able to get some sleep.

Today was I bit rougher. I had some diarrhea and later in the day some nausea set in. I believe that it may be due to the lack of sleep. I am not too worried as I have a lot of time to rest and sleep right now. I did have enough strength to go grocery shopping and make dinner (with a lot of help from the family). I will be going to bed early tonight.

Besides that, it was an uneventful day except for the 15cm of snow. It is expected to go up to 8 C tomorrow so I am hoping the driveway melts before I need to shovel it.

  1. Sounds like you made it through Round One with relative ease… let’s hope it continues that way. Keep those fists up buddy! As for the snow… just let it melt 😉 /Tom

  2. Good grief….if it doesn’t rain, it snows. I just got caught up and was stunned about MA’s injury. I hope she is a little more comfortable now. Also happy to hear your first session of chemo went well. I can’t cook but I would be happy to run some errands for you. 613-421-5568. Take care.

  3. Absolutely love your song choice for your April 6th post “Let’s Get Ready to Rumble”….. perfect selection.
