How This All Started

I have some news to share. It is not easy for me to say but I will do my best to do so here. Ideally, I would have preferred to deliver this in person but you deserve to hear about this sooner than later.
I have beenĀ given some bad news about my health. I had been having abdominal cramps for some time now and I finally had a chance to see a doctor in January ’16. During her examination, she discovered a lump that she felt required more attention. On Monday, February 22, I had an ultrasound done and it was confirmed hat there was the presence of a mass in my intestines. By that afternoon, I was scheduled for a CT scan for that Wednesday (Feb 24). The results of the CT scan were quick and it was discovered that the mass is about 5cm x 7cm in my colon.
The GP that I talked to on Friday (Feb 26) could not provide an official prognosis but she stated that she was 99% sure it is cancer. In the following week, I had a colonoscopy on Thursday (Mar 3) whereby a biopsy was done. Followed along with this, an MRI was performed on Sunday (Mar 6). At this point, I am waiting for the results of these procedures to confirm a diagnosis and map out a plan moving forward.
I am currently expecting that some form of surgery and chemotherapy will be involved but that will be decided by me and the team of doctors on my case. I am hopeful to have this completed by the end of the week (Mar 11) so that I can start planning my life again!
I am remaining very positive and am confident it will work out well. I come from a family of fighters and we do not give up easily. I have a great support group that is helping me out. Though it is hard, my family is taking it very well.
I am still keeping this quiet but with this blog, it will probably go viral. Feel free to check in periodically to get an update. It will be easier for me to keep all of you updated this way instead of individually.
Thank you for all your support and best wishes.
Darren.

    1. OMG, you are quick! I literally just set this up 1/2h ago and am still testing to see how it works. I have not told anyone about this yet.

      Thanks for the support.

      Darren.

  2. I’m so sorry to hear this sad news. You sound mentally prepared for what’s ahead of you and that’s half the battle. Stay Strong<3

  4. Hi, Darren.

Sorry to hear the news, but we all know you will pull through. That is strong Bessette and Cantin blood that runs through you! Give it hell, my friend.

Just let us know if you or your family needs anything.

    1. Thanks Pete. Very much appreciated.

Will definitely keep you in mind should the need arise.

      Sincerely,

      Darren.

  5. You will not go into the long darkness, as there is too much laughter and love left in your soul. There is far too much beer for us to drink and food chopping to do at a cabane in the woods for years to come. Now, if you fund yourself wanting to wear skinny jeans, there might be danger.
Strength in numbers, strength in friends. Peace my brother.

  6. Hey i know u well beat the crap out of this. I look forward to seeing u as its been awhile. I love your attitude and thank u for setting this site up to keep us up to date. Means alot.
